What if my shoe took me somewhere unexpected?
These small ideas are like seeds. At first, they don’t look like much. But with a little imagination, they grow.
When we encourage kids to start small, we take away the pressure. Writing becomes lighter, more playful. Instead of waiting for the “perfect” idea, they can begin right away—with curiosity leading the way.
From that tiny beginning, a character appears. Then a problem. Then a journey.
Before they know it, they’re not just answering a question—they’re telling a story.
So the next time a child says, “I don’t know what to write,” invite them to start with a what if. It’s often the smallest ideas that open the door to the biggest adventures.
