My Favorite American Christmas Traditions
Every December, as the air turns chilly and the scent of tamales fills the house, I look forward to celebrating Christmas with the little traditions that make the season feel magical. While many of my holiday customs are rooted in my family’s culture and heritage, there are a few that feel purely, joyfully American—and I cherish them every year.
The season always begins with one of my favorite traditions: watching the movie Elf. I never get tired of Buddy’s wide-eyed wonder and his endless holiday cheer. No matter how many times I’ve seen it, it always makes me laugh and reminds me that Christmas is about joy, kindness, and believing in magic.
Next comes decorating the Christmas tree. I love unwrapping ornaments collected over the years and hanging them on the branches while holiday music plays in the background. The twinkle of lights on the tree feels like a warm hug from Christmas itself.
Another tradition I look forward to is driving around town to admire the holiday lights. Some houses sparkle with thousands of bulbs, others glow softly with simple wreaths and candles. Together, they make the night feel bright and full of wonder.
And of course, Christmas wouldn’t be complete without baking sweet treats for the holiday dinner. From cheesecake to tres leches cake the kitchen becomes a place of delicious smells and happy memories. These small traditions make the season special—and remind me that Christmas is about love, laughter, and togetherness.

Mis Tradiciones Navideñas Americanas Favoritas
Cada diciembre, cuando el aire se vuelve más frío y el aroma de los tamales llena la casa, espero con ilusión celebrar la Navidad con esas pequeñas tradiciones que hacen que la temporada se sienta mágica. Aunque muchas de mis costumbres navideñas están profundamente arraigadas en la cultura y la herencia de mi familia, hay algunas que se sienten puramente —y alegremente— estadounidenses, y las valoro cada año.
La temporada siempre comienza con una de mis tradiciones favoritas: ver la película Elf. Nunca me canso del asombro inocente de Buddy ni de su inagotable espíritu navideño. No importa cuántas veces la haya visto, siempre me hace reír y me recuerda que la Navidad trata de alegría, bondad y de creer en la magia.
Después llega el momento de decorar el árbol de Navidad. Me encanta desenvolver los adornos que he ido reuniendo a lo largo de los años y colgarlos en las ramas mientras la música navideña suena de fondo. El parpadeo de las luces en el árbol se siente como un cálido abrazo de la Navidad misma.
Otra tradición que espero con entusiasmo es conducir por la ciudad para admirar las luces navideñas. Algunas casas brillan con miles de focos, mientras que otras resplandecen suavemente con coronas y velas sencillas. Juntas, hacen que la noche se sienta luminosa y llena de asombro.
Y, por supuesto, la Navidad no estaría completa sin hornear dulces para la cena navideña. Desde cheesecake hasta pastel de tres leches, la cocina se convierte en un lugar lleno de aromas deliciosos y recuerdos felices. Estas pequeñas tradiciones hacen que la temporada sea especial y me recuerdan que la Navidad trata de amor, risas y unión.
