The book centers on the grandparent-grandchild relationship. Christmas is coming and grandma needs to make enough money to buy gifts for her grandchildren. She sets about making tamales to sell right around Halloween. As the number of tamales she makes grows, it gets closer to Christmas. Will she give her grandchildren the gift they want most?
