Have you ever felt like you are just one person who can’t possibly be of help in a crisis? Did you ever think about how far a smile can reach?
The Picture Book of the Week is Up and Adam, written by Debbie Zapata and illustrated by Yong Ling Kang.
About the Book:
Adam is a young boy with Down’s Syndrome who hears a call to action from the mayor after a storm. He promptly responds by grabbing his wagon and his dog, Up, and looking for people who might need help. He helps pick up sticks from fallen trees, helps a janitor pick up toys blown by the wind, and helps a girl fix her birdhouse. He gives everyone he encounters a big smile and a Hi! Hiii! Adam demonstrates how much a positive spirit can accomplish with a simple helping hand and a smile.
Writing Exercise for kids:
Up and Adam jumped into action when a crisis hit their city. Tell about a time you, or write a story about a character who, makes a difference by helping someone in need
